Metropolitan of Kastoria Seraphim passed away.
The cause of death is related to complications from COVID-19.
Today, December 29, 2020, the humble shepherd of Kastoria, Mr. Seraphim, left the country alive for Upper Jerusalem.
Despite the tireless and sacrificial efforts of the medical and nursing staff of 424 GSNE, it was not possible to keep him alive. Public thanks are expressed to the staff of the hospital but also to all those who sent prayers and supplications for the recovery of the now blessed Metropolitan of Kastoria, Mr. Seraphim.
The blessed Metropolitan of Kastoria, the venerable Seraphim (according to Ioannis Papakostas) was born in 1959 in Agnantero, Karditsa.
He studied at the Rizareio Ecclesiastical School of Athens, at the Higher Ecclesiastical School where he graduated in 1983.
He then studied at the Theological School of Athens and received his degree in 1987.
He was ordained a Deacon in 1983 and an Elder in 1987. He served as a Deacon, Pastor-Preacher and Priest in the Church of Agios Nikolaos in Kato Patissia.
He also served as the Youth Director of the Archdiocese of Athens and in charge of Protocol at the Holy Synod and in 1990 as Secretary at the Holy Synod. Holy Metropolis of Kastoria
He was ordained a bishop on October 5, 1996.
With his care, many local saints of the Diocese of Kastoria were promoted and canonized.
The Diocese of Kastoria during his presidency was organized and develops charitable and spiritual activity with many aspects such as operation of “Lazaros and Athena L. Rizou” Nursing Home, Blood Bank, Love Bank (food), Scholarship Fund, Unemployment Support Service. A., Family, Patients, Ladies’ Love Association, coordinating body of the charitable movement of the parishes of the Holy Metropolis.
